Memories Do Not Burn, A Memoir
Bringing Hope and Resilience to Children of War
By Judith JenyA
Dodging a bullet in besieged Sarajevo, fighting hatred and prejudice, and consoling a troubled teen victim of wartime rape are among the incidents recounted in this inspiring story of one woman’s work to help children of war and violence.
Judith Jenya is the recipient of many awards for her groundbreaking work on peace and healing. She recounts the fascinating stories of what it took to start, fund, and organize Global Children’s organization and create summer camps bringing together children from opposing sides during the war in a country she had only visited once.
Judith shares her joys and triumphs as well as some of the many obstacles and roadblocks, both literal and metaphoric, she worked through.
She developed resilience in traumatized children and in herself. Her quest to bring Tikkun Olam, repair of the world, to the youngest victims of war and violence in Northern Ireland, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, and Los Angeles is recounted with humor, compassion, and poignancy.
She was a pioneer in creating opportunities for volunteer tourism and helped hundreds of volunteers have a life-changing experience through volunteering at the summer camps she created. She brought hope to the over 1600 children who attended her camps. She describes arranging adoptions in Russia, being an ‘accidental expert in Albania,” and working as a consultant in Jordan and Kosovo.
NOTE: A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to Voices of Children Charitable Foundation, an NGO now helping children in the Ukraine war.
